How to Make the Best Hot Chocolate

In our humble opinion, we make Scotland's best hot chocolate. In five easy steps, you can too!

Step 1

Measure out a mug of milk.

We like to use whole milk, but you can use an alternative like oat, coconut or hazelnut if you prefer dairy free.

Step 2

Chop up around 50g of high quality chocolate and add it to your milk.

Our go-to is milk chocolate, but dark (often dairy free), white and blonde hot chocolates are also delicious. If you're feeling particularly fancy, we'd really recommend our flavoured chocolates such as Skye Sea Salt or Haggis Spice for an added element of luxury.

Step 3

Heat the milk to 75°C.

We use a milk steamer but don't worry if you don't have one. You can also do this on the hob or even in the microwave.

Step 4

Whisk and ensure chocolate is completely melted.

If you have a wee tiny whisk - perfect! If not, a fork will do.

Step 5

Pour into your favourite mug and top with whipped cream.

Or 'skooshy cream' as we call it in Scotland. Once you have your cream on, finish it off by lightly sieving over some cocoa powder or sprinkling on some chocolate shavings. You could even add some chopped hazelnuts or raspberries (or anything you like really). If you're a traditionalist, stick some marshmallows on too. Enjoy!
