FROM OUR
HIGHLAND KITCHEN
The story told by Finlay

Hi, I’m Finlay Macdonald. I founded Chocolates of Glenshiel when I was 16. I’ve always loved food, for me it means family, care and community. From a very early age I baked scones with my Granny on Sunday afternoons and with my other Granny I’d bake cakes. I treasure those times and it is what inspired me to become a chocolatier. Growing up in Glenshiel has given me so much, everyday it inspires me. Whether it’s Skye Whisky or Heather Honey, all our flavours are locally sourced and all our chocolates are handmade, with love, in our remote, wee community in the Highlands.

Loch Duich
A glen of inspiration
I feel very blessed to live in a place as picturesque as Glenshiel, it really is a stunning setting for my wee kitchen. It’s remoteness and natural beauty are a constant source of inspiration as I expand our range and experiment with different tastes. We always make sure to use the best local ingredients, whether it’s locally foraged elderflower, Dundee Marmalade or Raspberries from Blairgowrie. And with views over the mountains and Loch Duich, I am never far from the Highland dream upon which Chocolates of Glenshiel was founded.

Bringing people together with chocolate
For me, it’s not enough for my chocolates to taste wonderful, I want them to be a special gift for someone and at the heart of social get-togethers. My chocolates bring people pleasure but they are also a way to bring jobs to Glenshiel and help boost the fragile economy of the community by supporting local suppliers. Being a force for good was one of our founding principles and, in the future I plan to give back to the community through a trust programme.
